Cats on Tuesday...

For more cat news visit Gattina's Cats on Tuesday...

As you may recall last week I had to take Mrs Pod to the vets.  She has ear problems yet again.  The vet put her on antibiotics which unfortunately made Mrs P very sick (on checking her notes it was then realised that the same antibiotics had the same result on her back in February).  A new lot of antibiotics were prescribed which then also started to make her sick.  Yesterday it got worse - poor old Mrs P was turning around in circles, her legs were going stiff... she was not a well kitty.  We took her to the out of hours vet (why do these things happen on a Bank Holiday?) who decided to take her off all antibiotics at the moment and give her ear drops instead.  She couldn't be sure the turning circles thing etc was down to the tablets, or balance problems caused by her ears, or kidney problems as she's lost quite a bit of weight (although she's been so sick she hasn't felt like eating much so I can't say I'm surprised).  The vet said she might have to have her inner ears cleaned out (they do this by making an incision in the ear drum - ouch) to get rid of any nasty bacteria there, and she also mentioned having her head x-rayed to see what's going on inside the ears.  Personally I think the circling thing was down to a reaction to the tablets (I looked it up on the internet and found out that too high a dose could cause neurological problems).  Mrs P is rather subdued but still eating although not with as much enthusiasm as she usually does, and she won't touch her biscuits.  Please send healing vibes and purrs for her. I'm going to pop into the vets on the way to work and find out where we go from here - and also what the bill from yesterday was!!!

Poor Mrs P ! I have never heard of such ear cleaning, by making an incision. Then she has to go through anesthesia ? that's not good for an old cat (in fact I don't know her age exactly) an X-ray would be the best solution, to see what happens exactly. As long as she eats and grooms it's still OK. Wet food is much better as dry food for an old cat, because of the kidneys, that's the weak point of all cats. Hope that she will get better !

Poor wee Mrs P! :o( I read this aloud to John and we both groaned in sympathy. We're sending healing thoughts, and the cats, once I assured them that they wouldn't have to meet her face to face, agreed to send healing purrs. But it was touch and go... The dogs just said, 'Don't hold us back any more! We're on our way out for a walk... Healing wags? Yeah, yeah, OK. Now let's go!' So you can see we're all thinking about her.
Hope the bill wasn't too horrific and that she'll be all sorted out very soon.

Emma and Buster surely would be thinking healing thoughts towards Mrs. P. That's isn't a fun situation to be in.

Hugs and kisses.

Poor Mrs. Poskey. I hope her ears get better with the drops and she starts eating better too. We have big news here - not necessarily good, but big. Scaredy Cat has a litter. Dave has seen the little ones in front of the barn across the road but I haven't spotted them yet. I intended to have her spayed but couldn't touch her. However, this morning she let me pet her head. As soon as I can, I'll get her to the vet for spaying, we'll adopt one kitten, and then probably the others will have to go to the shelter because none of my neighbors want them.

Oh, you and your kids have been having quite a time of it lately! I sure hope June brings much better luck and health and tidings.

I echo everyone else with a hearty, "Poor Mrs. Pod!" That whole ear-cleaning-by-incision thing sounds a bit radical! I hope the drops are helping and that it all clears up soon. No fun for any of you.

I also hope the vet bill wasn't too painful. We just dropped another $300+ at the vet yesterday ourselves. OUCH! Vaccinations, heart worm tests, another U/A on Josie and a bag of high-dollar prescription dog food for her that's supposed to help with UTIs. So we feel your pain!

Anything happening on the house-selling front? Showings have dried up to nothing here, U.S. real estate news is grim, but we keep cleaning and mowing with optimistic gusto! (Not sure how long I can keep this up, though, without turning in circles myself!) Still keeping fingers and toes crossed and lots of positive and healing energy zooming your way!

Mrs P thanks everyone for their kind thoughts and positive vibes. She's feeling a bit brighter in herself, I'll give more of an update next week. Laloofah - no news on the house front here either, although the market does seem a bit better now, things are definitely moving again. Hope you manage to sell soon - keep being positive, i don't know how anyone could resist your home in its lovely setting. Vet bills eh? It was £134 just for the consultation charge on Monday as it was 'out of hours'! I made David sit in the car whilst I paid it!!

It's amazing the money we can invest in these loved ones; I think I spend more money in food for the cats than I do for myself!
