Simplicity Photography Challenge... What makes you smile? And Texture Thursday

The Daily Wyatt

Season of mists...
What makes me smile?
Autumn makes me smile - a lot.
As do my friends,
my cats (can also cause me to be immensely vexed)
David (ditto the above)
stars,
snow,
frosty mornings,
really good dark chocolate,
poetry,
Bach,
Vaughan Williams,
and
photography.

Gradient in autumnal hues - opacity 65% - Soft Light blend mode
Kim Klassen texture - 'Old Whisk' - Overlay blend mode

  1. That photograph is almost like a painting. The colours are beautiful, the setting so inviting.

  2. Wow! It looks so peaceful! I wished I could spend some time there, enjoying nature and forget about everything else.

  4. Lovely photo, I'm wondering what you did to it in PhotoShop (or other), what filter(s). Or maybe that's asking for secret info--lol--and if so, sorry. Sometimes I apply a Gaussian blur to give my nature snapshots (because I don't take "photographs") a bit more pop. Sometimes I'll use a high pass filter to sharpen, but I really don't know much, what other filters to use.

  6. Thanks all.
Fuzzy Tales - no secrets here, we have complete freedom of information :O) It was quite a cold looking scene with the mist - very blue in tone. I have a very old version of Paint Shop (Paint Shop Pro 7) and what I did was create a new layer, then flood filled this, choosing 'Foreground gradient' as the style and picking autumnal tones fading from red at the top into yellow at the bottom. Then I took the opacity down to about 65% on this layer and altered the blend mode to 'Soft Light'. Then I added a freebie Kim Klassen texture called 'old whisk' which I can email to you if you like, and changed the blend mode to 'Overlay'. It's a lot easier than it sounds!

I get many more views on my posts than comments, so please if you drop by, stop and say hello. Otherwise I'll start getting paranoid and neurotic, and worry that nobody likes me... sniff sniff...
