Yesterday I went to Chatsworth again (no this isn't going to turn into a rip-off of Rebecca). For those of you not aware of what or where it is, it's a beautiful stately home in the equally beautiful Peak District of Derbyshire, and has been home to the Dukes of Devonshire since 1549. There was a Christmas market on near the house so it was packed with visitors, but the gardens were empty enough to content me and my camera. As for the gardens, well you know how Elizabeth Bennett fell in love with Mr Darcy after seeing the grounds at Pemberley? Visit Chatsworth and you'll understand why.

Absolutely a gorgeous place for a camera. Autumn in full "bloom" in such a place looks a dream.

ReplyDeleteThese photos are nothing short of gloriously breathtaking. It's impossible to choose a favorite - they're all favorites - but I most want to spend hours soaking in that view of the Cascade, then strolling across that beautiful bridge and spending further hours in the Grotto. Imagine being a Duke of Devon. Did they know how fortunate they were to live in such a gorgeous place? Probably too busy engaged in political intrigue, slaughtering the poor critters who lived in those woods, and exploiting the peasant classes to notice, but damn. I'd love to live in such a place! (The grounds, not the house - a cute cozy, thatched cottage would have been perfect!) :-)
Though we took in as much of your lovely country as we could on our two visits, we knew we had missed much. But your photos always show me clearly just HOW much, and make me long to return. Can someone feel homesick for a place they've never lived (at least not in this incarnation?) Because that's how your photos make me feel!!
