Last Scavenger Hunt of July, the year is whizzing by!
Walking Empty Streets...
This is from the archives (February this year).
This is from the archives (February this year).
The summer holiday season is in full swing here,
if there are any empty streets in the UK right now
if there are any empty streets in the UK right now
could someone please tell me where
they are so I can go there?
they are so I can go there?
Repeating Patterns...
Last Sunday, Helen, Cath and myself
went to Snowshill Lavender Farm in Gloucestershire
(or the 'Three Go Mad in the Cotswolds'
(or the 'Three Go Mad in the Cotswolds'
trip as we like to think of it).
Wonderful place, wonderful day...
I chose this one for the repeating lines between the lavender.
Floor...
And because you can never have too many photos
of lavender fields, here's a floor level view
of the harvesting of the lavender. (The smell was
glorious). And yes I was sitting on my backside
in the dirt to get this :O)
Then and Now...
This is a really boring photo.
Anyway, that's our first compact digital camera
and my super wonderful Canon 7D.
Fingertips...
Me with a flower.
I have no idea what it is
(so don't ask me Laloofah!)
I remember that photo! I think that was one of the first of your posts I either saw or commented on. February feels like a long lifetime ago, doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteThe lavender farm looks like a dream, and your Cotswold Adventure sounds like great fun. I'd love to visit a lavender farm someday, I can just imagine how wonderful the aroma must be while they're harvesting! On our first trip to England, our friends Iain and Sophie took us to a lakeside park area in the South Downs where lavender was growing wild. A novelty to me, I picked a sprig, only to have Iain tease me by telling me it was an endangered species and against the law to pick. ;-)
As for your camera evolution, you've come a long way, baby! :-) You and your Canon sure make a great team - your photos are always incredible.
Oh, I know that one! It's the extremely rare, highly endangered and vigorously protected English Daisy (Daisicus anglorubbishata). Not only is it against the law to pick one, it's illegal to even photograph them. Violations result in hefty fines and many years in the Tower of London, with no internet access. ;-)~
Hello! Wonderful blog!
ReplyDeleteAmin: Thank you for stopping by and your kind words.
ReplyDeleteLaloofah: LOL!!! You even speak latin too :O) Actually I know it isn't a daisy because it's too bloody big! If the daisies on my lawn were as big as that my lawn mower would cry and run for cover. It's actually the flower that is so rare it's forbidden to even speak its name, and there is a rumour that any Americans found even looking at pictures of it are taken to the depths of Warwick Castle and subjected to the Spanish Inquisition and the comfy chair ;O))) (No one expects the Spanish Inquisition...!)
What a wonderful set! Love them all, especially the lavender fields and the street. Great idea with the cameras:)
ReplyDeleteoh I want to walk through a lavender farm!
ReplyDeletegreat shots! look at all that lavender!!
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful lavender blue !!!!!! Your empty streets is so beautiful ! Floor and repeating are cool (and so blue !) Good photos !
ReplyDeletelove the image of the lavender farm. Beautiful patterns, color, portrait.
ReplyDeleteThat 1st shot is stunning!
ReplyDeleteOh to be there walking through those lavender fields and hearing the hum of the bees would be wonderful. I think we have fields of thistles near St Andrews for commerical purposes but I would much prefer to walk through lavender rather than thistles.
ReplyDeleteI agree about the non empty streets in the UK - we have the Rewind pop concert here this weekend - the place is heaving.
(I like that shot of the 7d - I can't wait to take a shot like that - My 7d is in the post and I'm hoping to have it by next weekend)

what a beautiful shot of the lavender
ReplyDeleteOhh, I love your representation of "then and now" photo! :) Your "fingertips" photo looks really awesome too!
ReplyDelete(With rolling eyes and delivered in a tone of ennui): "Well I didn't expect a sort of Spanish Inquisition..."
ReplyDeleteROTFL! "So rare it's forbidden to even speak its name..." I'm dyin' over here! Game, set, match to Barbara of the UK. :-)
I'm actually thrilled with the penalty Americans get for looking at The Flower Whose Name Must Never Be Uttered, since we intended to visit Warwick Castle on our first trip there and missed it! Now I'll get a chance to get the inside tour. ;-) Also, I could use a comfy chair. With or without the soft cushion? Have you got all the stuffing up one end?
As for the tremendous size of your Freak Mutant English Daisy (the UK does, after all, have nuclear plants), I just reckoned you had really huge fingertips. ;-)~
Funny, I just finished reading The Lantern set in Provence and harvesting lavender plays an important role in the story. I love the smell of it. Also love your empty streets shining in the street lamps.
ReplyDeleteLatest on our cats: no shelter will take them so we're going to need to get them to the vet - quickly before there are more kittens.
What a beautiful set - I love your first two shots. I hope you have a great Sunday!
ReplyDeleteLovely photos especially the lavender farm.
ReplyDeleteThat first shot is AWESOME!!
ReplyDeleteI'd say it's a chrysanthemum. The only kind I like, i.e. like a big daisy. I may be wrong (it's been known - VERY occasionally). I have some in the garden, so will check in the morning.
ReplyDeleteWow! That lavender! It's so weird, but today John and I drove past a field that had purple flowers and I said, 'Just imagine what it would be like to walk through a field of lavender. The smell would be wonderful!' John says, if you tripped over in a field of lavender, you'd fall asleep right away! :o)
Did you ask your friend to wear matching colours, just so you could take a photo? What an accommodating friend! :o)
Penny
The last shot is beautiful, great crop.
ReplyDeleteLOL! No your comment about huge fingertips definitely wins - it even made Charlie guffaw!
ReplyDeleteThose are great shots!!
ReplyDeletePenny - thanks for the info! The smell was just wonderful (although we poked our heads into building where they distill the lavender and nearly passed out!), and no Cath's outfit was just worn by chance! Very glad she wore it though!
