Scavenger Hunt Sunday...

My it's a while since I've taken part in one of these... I think I had camera fatigue.  Anyway, some of these are new photos, some from the archives.

Pop Art Ducks
Pop of Colour...
A rubber duck goes a bit Andy Warhol...

Crossing Thresholds...
Took this yesterday - it's actually the entrance
to The Heart of the Shires Shopping Village
in rural Northamptonshire!

X-Ray...
I have really no idea why I thought this ornament
would make a good x-ray image.
I took this photo yesterday whilst at my friend Helen's new cottage,
she has no furniture yet but she does have this sign above her fireplace.
I wanted to kidnap it.

Charlie and the toy...
Toy...
This is from the archives.
It's Charlie ignoring his toy of course.

Hidden...
Across from Helen's new cottage is a large black gate
set in a stone wall.  Inside the gate is a beautiful
square garden surrounded by these Alms Houses which
date from the 18th century.  They even have their
own little chapel.  Originally built for widows of the parish,
they are absolutely gorgeous,
and you would never, ever guess they were there
from the outside.

  3. Really terrific shots! I'd like to kidnap Helen's cottage AND that wonderful garden. And I love the entrance to the shopping village. It all looks so marvellous, makes me wish I could travel to see places like this first hand! :-)

  5. I love the colorful rubber ducky! Definitely Andy Warholish. And I adore the lovely shopping village entrance and the two photos of the gate in the wall and the "secret garden" and alms cottages behind it. Wish I could step into those photos. So pretty! And now I'm going to go all stereotypical American on you (well, it's IS Independence Day weekend, lol), and go on about the historic buildings there and how plentiful, well preserved and impressively old they are! I mean, 17th century cottages! (And I realize there are many buildings much older than that - we stayed in a lovely pub/B&B in Devon that was built in 1327!) I really admire the wonderful care that is taken of so many of England's old buildings, and love that they are still being lived in, shopped in, used and loved in the 21st century.

If you're in the throes of moving and only have time to put one possession in your new digs, a "RELAX" sign is a perfect choice! Can't blame you for wanting to make off with it. Maybe your friend can get you one of your own as a housewarming gift when it's your turn to move! :-)

And I can't neglect dear Sir Charles ~ whose amusingly haughty toy-ignoring photo I remember from before and enjoyed its encore presentation ~ lest he become angered by my oversight and seek out vengeance. You're too cool for school, Charlie!

  10. Oops, I'm forever mixing up things like "the 1700s" and "17th century!" I mean, I know that the 17th century is the 1600s, and the 18th century is the 1700s, but I goof it up anyway. Didn't mean to make those cottages 100 years older than they are, wouldn't want anyone doing that to me! :-)

  12. FYI - http://thethingsweread.blogspot.com/2011/07/2011-word.html

P.S. I am so glad you posted picture of fuschias yesterday. I had bought one of these a couple years ago and loved it. It was pink with a purple center flower. I could not remember the name in order to find another. I always called it the alien plant.

  14. Thanks all - Bree: LOL! Love the thought of alien fuschias! And thanks again for the lovely mention on your page. Laloofah: Your overt enthusiasm for our ye olde englishe buildings is quite understandable, it does us good to be shaken out of our complacency at being surrounded by so much history. Charlie himself dates from the time of the Norman Conquest ;O)) Not sure I should be encouraging you in that Independence Day lark, it's a tad insulting to us Brits, but then again we did export the Beckhams to you - which is what Pepper would call the law of kharma in beautiful action :O)) I always have to think about about which century is which too and remember to add one to the number to get the name!

I get many more views on my posts than comments, so please if you drop by, stop and say hello. Otherwise I'll start getting paranoid and neurotic, and worry that nobody likes me... sniff sniff...
