Cats on Tuesday...

It was Pepper's twelfth birthday on Sunday.  As I was out with Cath and Helen at the Royal Shakespeare Company's Open Day in Stratford (and didn't we have a great day, despite more rain than you could shake a stick at) she spent the day quietly sleeping on the comfy stool by the window. David was also out doing something so boring that I can't even remember what it was.  Anyway, I digress...  In the evening we lit a birthday candle and opened a tin of birthday tuna for her, then there was the unveiling of the crochet blanket I made.  Would it get through the strict quality control that cats enforce (they're very fussy, a stitch out of place, the wrong colour, anything can cause them to reject an offering)?  Truly a moment of suspense...

No birthday cake but some rather sweet
cupcake candle holders and a tin of Tesco tuna...

Rears of the year...
Mrs Pod and Posky join in with the birthday nomming....

The moment of truth...
It was touch and go at first whether the blanket would find
favour with the birthday girl,
she did seem rather disturbed by that violently orange stripe...

But hurrah!  She graces it with her small furry posterior!
It has been deemed acceptable and fit for purpose!
(And Charlie immediately wanted it)...

but now Pepper faces a dilemma...
she ponders whether she should practice non-attachment to her 'blankie' and
let Charlie have it, thus creating good karma for herself?

That will be no then!

...and Charlie has to make do with a crochet scarf worn
with an air of insouciance.  I have a feeling that
the blanket is still on his radar sceen however and
he means to acquire it by fair means or foul - watch this space...

The blanket is made from Red Heart's Amish Bars Throw pattern.

  6. Belated Happy Biirthday gretings to Pepper! We love that blankie AND the scarf. In fact we'd love one of those scarfs each for winter ~ we'll have to nag mom.

Mom said she is jealous about the RSC open day ~ she had hoped to go but couldn't get to SOA because of other commitments. Maybe next time.

  8. Drama-drama-drama!! Well, good to know the birthday is happy, and approves, and especially that no dolphins were harmed (dolphin friendly tuna). All is well, all is well.

  11. Happy birthday, Pepper! And best wishes for many more to come!

What a gorgeous blanket; no wonder Charlie is envious! But he looks so snazzy in his scarf! And I love the cupcake candle-holders, too. :o)

I didn't realise there was such a difference in size between Mrs Pod and Posky!

  12. Happy Belated Birthday, dear Pepper! You don't look a day over four. :-) And you look quite fetching on your gorgeous new blanket! That orange stripe brings out the lovely orange tones of your fur. Tell Charlie he looks pawsitively rakish in his dashing scarf ("an air of insouciance" indeed, lol!), and that speaking of paws... he's to keep his off your blanket or he'll NEVER pay off all the bad karmic debt he's acquired!

As it happens, just above your birthday post on my Blogger Dashboard there appeared a post from another blog I follow with "Cat Party" in the title. So I checked it out, and thought you and your witty mom might find the Cat Party portion of the post quite entertaining! :-)

  13. Thanks all :O) Penny - I think there was something going on with the perspective in that photo of Posky and Mrs P, she's not that small a cat, I will make it a mission to try and get a pic to compare their sizes! Laloofah - thanks so much for posting that link. LOL! Pepper is vomiting with jealousy at not having been given a cat party for her birthday. We may have to host one in the not too distant future ;O)

  16. Laloofah: I like to think of it as a phrase that Thomas Hardy may have used in an early draft of one of his novels. "With the county of Wessex spread beneath his feet in verdant green, Gabriel Oak was vomiting with jealousy at the sight of Bathsheba with Sergant Troy". I think that could have worked :O)

I get many more views on my posts than comments, so please if you drop by, stop and say hello. Otherwise I'll start getting paranoid and neurotic, and worry that nobody likes me... sniff sniff...
