Cats on Tuesday and ABC Wednesday...

E is for Eliot as in T S, originally from Missouri he became a British subject in 1927 and member of the Anglican Church.  Writer of such twentieth century classics of poetry as The Wasteland which established him as the voice of a disillusioned generation.  The cats however prefer the book of verse he wrote for children called Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats.

The Naming of Cats is a difficult matter,
It isn't just one of your holiday games;
You may think at first I'm as mad as a hatter
When I tell you, a cat must have THREE DIFFERENT NAMES.

And to illustrate this:
Everyday Name: Mrs Pod
More Particular Name: Lady Bracknell
Secret Name: She who gives withering glances...

Everyday name: Charlie
More particular name: Oliver Onions
Secret Name:  He who must not be named -
he says if we find out he'll have to kill us.
(I think it's probably something like Fluff and he's embarrassed about it)

Everyday Name: Posky
More Particular Name: Earl Grey
Secret Name: He who has achieved perpetual nomming
(or Mummy's Brave Little Soldier when he goes to the vets)

Everyday name: Pepper
More particular name: The Roo
Secret Name: Pepper says 'If you're trying too hard to
seek my name you won't find it, it lies in plain sight
for those who would see it'
 (she's been talking to her
friend the Buddha again and is rather Zen)

  12. Barbara -

Such big smiles as I am reading this! Now I do not have cats, I have birds, and each of them have several "names," not one of which is their original name. When you think about it, we usually name a pet when it first comes home, and we know nothing about it or its personality. The names come over time as it becomes part of our daily lives.

    Loved reading this!

Thank you for your visit! It is how I found you here, and I am so glad I did. What a wonderful blog you have!

  15. Thanks all. Lisa, your blog is a joy, and thanks for stopping by here. Justine - how great that you brought Ling Ling back with you, David used to live in Hong Kong many years ago and loved it (didn't bring any cats back though which I think very remiss of him).

  16. Your cats are simply lovely. The first one looks a little perturbed. (My two that are always intertwined are blood brothers; I've never had others sleep together like that before.)

I get many more views on my posts than comments, so please if you drop by, stop and say hello. Otherwise I'll start getting paranoid and neurotic, and worry that nobody likes me... sniff sniff...
